Memory Reliability Expert Witness
on Legal Cases
Dr Lawrence Patihis, PhD, is a British/American psychology academic with over 60 published articles on research related to the topic of false memories, including some in the leading journals in the field. He lectures on the topic of how memory research applies to legal cases. He trained in social and cognitive psychology and works within the forensic psychology subsection of his university. He is a full time senior lecturer in the UK (for US readers, this is a similar rank to associate professor in the US). My PhD was obtained from the University of California, Irvine, and my advisor and coauthor was the memory distortion expert and researcher Elizabeth Loftus.

Dr Patihis is available to work as an expert witness to consult, write legal reports, and testify, on legal cases involving false accusations and/or possible memory distortions. Features of relevant cases might include any of the following: eyewitness testimony, accusations that follow therapy, long time periods between event and recall, misinformation, social influences, discontinuous memory, dissociative amnesia, dissociative identity disorder, repressed memories, blocked trauma, guided imagery, hypnosis, suggestive questions, and/or a lack of corroborating evidence.

Dr Patihis can work on cases in English speaking countries, such as the United States, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

Dr Patihis' work sometimes helps investigate full due process for the defense in cases involving possible memory evidence contamination and/or social contagion relating to memory. Dr Patihis also has an open door to enquiries from prosecution attorneys in strong-evidence cases.
